To add a Movie
- Search to see if it already exists. We don't want lots of duplicate pages. Try this search:
- If it does not exist, feel free to add it; just type the name of the Movie you'd like to add in the box below and click "CreatePage". For more information on creating and navigating pages you can see HowToUseWiki.
- Once you have created a page, it will simply appear in the list above. If you would like to add information about the page, click on its name in the list and edit and save the text.

DanFr: Frankly, since this site is run by folks who also run MovieLens, the energy and desire to keep this category full and happy is a little less than some of the other categories. (added at 08:56:15 AM on 04/22/05)
69.114.181.233: I'm kind of stunned....I've rated a handful of beers and sodas and a couple of websites and the movie predictions are damned good. one question: if I'm predicted to rate, say, 3.7, and that is indeed my exact rating, should I rate it a 3.5 (to add my data) or leave it a 3.7 (to reflect my actual rating)? In other words, do i pollute the data when my (rounded off) rating is less accurate than the prediction? (added at 01:51:33 PM on 07/15/05)
chowhound: also, there ought to be a general discussion page somewhere (e.g. a better place to host my comments above). I'll see if the wiki lets me add one right now..... (added at 01:55:24 PM on 07/15/05)
DanFr: The right place to answer questions is probably the WikiLens/FAQ. I'll answer your question there. The right place for general discussion is probably the email list:
https://wwws.cs.umn.edu/mm-cs/listinfo/wikilens-users. Feel free to create a page on this site if you want, tho. (added at 12:05:51 PM on 07/27/05)
brad999hall: yes, couldn't this be set up to link to our movielens account for movie ratings? No way I'm doing it twice. (added at 05:07:00 PM on 08/08/05)
DanFr: It would be very hard to "link" ratings in MovieLens so they would update each other automatically. Basically, it's very unlikely. It might be possible to "import" MovieLens ratings. I'd love to do it, but it would take a lot of work (many hours), and there are a lot of other things higher on the list. (added at 07:19:51 PM on 08/08/05)
Lando: I don't see much use for this category, because Movielens is way better in recommending movies. Maybe only real asset is that I can see how some other (individual) users or buddies have rated their movies. (added at 04:35:20 AM on 01/06/06)
Lando: Does anyone have anything against "Genre"-field? I could add same kind of checkbox-widget which I used when editing TV show/Fields. Here is how it works (don't hit save, "foo" is only page-example. (added at 07:23:44 AM on 01/10/06)
Lando: If I add "Genre"-field, then there is more than 1000 movies which have to be edited. I don't think thats problem, because users will still be able to see other information which is available and add genres if they like. (added at 07:26:20 AM on 01/10/06)
Lando: Could I also add "Starring"-field. It makes easier to recognize the movie. If I add that field, every movie have to be edited after that but that doesn't prohibit use of wikilens because other info is still available. (added at 07:00:56 AM on 01/18/06)
DanFr: I see no reason not to add those fields. It would be useful to have Icarus weigh in, as he has put a lot of effort into the Movie category. (added at 08:27:29 AM on 01/18/06)
Icarus: Those fields are fine with me if someone wants to put the effort into it. I don't know that I am that interested in using those fields myself, but I certainly wouldn't mind them being part of the system. (added at 10:43:06 AM on 01/18/06)
Lando: I added those two fields. I also started to edit movies from highest ratings top to down but had only time to edit 10 movies, I will continue work in future, everyone else feel free to start editing movie-info, there lacks almost 70% of information recently. (added at 08:11:32 AM on 01/19/06)
Lando: BTW, why do we need both ImdbLink and ImdbID in fields. Could we edit ImdbID out from fields, I see it as unnecessarity information. (added at 08:11:51 AM on 01/19/06)
Icarus: That's strange, both the IMDB fields had been filled in for everything not so long ago. Now many (most? all?) seem to be missing. Any idea what happened here? (added at 10:55:04 PM on 01/20/06)
Lando: Now I noticed that it was my mistake. I put "tilde" in front of those IMDB-fields because that makes those fields visible better way. By putting that "worm" before those imdb-words I accidentally prohibited correct information to be visible. When I edited "tilde" away, then everything came back visible. (added at 04:29:52 AM on 01/21/06)
DanFr: I would like to respond to some of these, but I am trying to get a paper submitted to a conference Jan. 30, and I will be super-busy until then. For example, I am working weekends on it. (added at 09:16:43 AM on 01/21/06)
Icarus: Cool Lando, glad it was a simple solution. Hope the paper goes well, Dan. (added at 01:09:21 PM on 01/22/06)
g246020: If WikiLens is based on MovieLens, could you add the tags feature from there? Often it is more meaningful movie description then anything else. Will WikiLens use a different recommendation engine? Thanks! (added at 09:03:48 AM on 02/28/07)
DanFr: I'd love to add tags! Sadly, WikiLens cannot borrow any code from MovieLens, they are completely separate. WikiLens also has a different recommendation engine, currently based on your buddies. Without buddies your recommendations won't be as exciting. (added at 09:50:46 PM on 02/28/07)
g246020: Is it possible to change the movie template to add a text field for the tags? Are there copyright issues? If not, could that be added in Wiki style, without need for special code? (added at 08:12:43 PM on 03/03/07)
DanFr: Sure. Definitely no copyright issues. True, it could be edited wiki-style, but note they would not be per-person tags. Rather, it would have to be tags everyone agreed upon (i.e., by editing the wiki page of the movie). If you think this is a good idea, you can simply edit Movie/Fields. I am neutral on it (because I wouldn't personally populate them), but my feeling is, if someone wants it enough to do some work, then why not? Go for it! See WikiLens/StructuredDataTutorial for more info on how to add fields. Think carefully about the id of the field, because you will not be able to easily change that once the data is populated. Certainly keep the field id to one word. (Note: the id is different from the display name, which can be changed more easily.) See also User/Fields for the "Interests" field, which is a comma-separated field that is even searchable (i.e., displays all users who match a given interest by clicking on the interest). Seems relevant. Tags could act like that. (added at 12:30:56 AM on 03/07/07)
